QC45 eLearning update
Have you ever scribbled a sticky note to yourself or set an alarm as a reminder for something? Maybe you leave your car keys in the same spot at home so you can find them easily?
Once you really start to consider, it can be surprising to realise how much we use compensatory strategies as daily hacks that help make our lives just that bit easier and our daily functioning that bit more effective and efficient.
With this in mind, it makes sense that part of our core business in mental health is supporting the people we work with to understand and explore any cognitive difficulties they may be experiencing and work together to develop strategies to support their desired goals and improve overall wellbeing.
The good news is that our QC45: Cognition in Mental Health and the Impact on Functioning eLearning has been undergoing an update and the new version was made live only a few days ago!
So what’s changed?
This redeveloped eLearning package now offers learners more bite sized learning followed up with interactive activities, quizzes and scenarios to help you further consolidate your understanding of the topics covered. Follow along with Jack and Suzie to explore assessments, interventions and documentation of cognitive functioning through a strengths-based lens and access our new ‘key definitions and concepts’ resource sheet, a useful tip sheet for all workers to have on hand!

Suicide prevention update
We are coming close to the end of our soft-launch phase for our new QC18 Suicide Prevention Skills: Core workshop following release in August this year. By the end of this month, we will have delivered this popular course 20 times across the state with many more deliveries planned for 2025!
Feedback from learners is resoundingly positive with a number of learners sharing it was the best suicide prevention training they had ever attended. Even so, we are busy making some further refinements to the workshop ahead of an official release early next year to make sure we are bringing you the best training we can.
When asked what they would do differently in their clinical practice following attending the QC18 workshop, many learners felt confident to use the Chronological Assessment of Suicide Events approach to gather information on suicide risk, as well as formulating and safety planning more comprehensively, collaboratively and compassionately. Additionally, our instructional video suite has proved a massive hit with the workforce with over 1600 views already!
Training dates for 2025 are starting to open up so make sure you get in quick and book a spot! |

Prestigious award nomination
In our previous edition we shared the exciting news that the Learning Centre Suicide Risk Assessment and Management in Emergency Departments (SRAM-ED) training program was selected as a finalist in two categories at the Australian Institute of Training and Development (AITD) Exellence awards. Representatives (including former Learning Centre Clinical Educator Dan Mobbs who co-authored the program) traveled to Sydney for the award ceremony held on 10 October.
While the Learning Centre did not place as a winner in either nominated category, the accolades received from the nomination alone are a tremendous honour.
Everyone involved in the development and roll out of SRAM-ED has seen or heard about the amazing work this training is achieving in Emergency Departments across Queensland. This level of recognition validates the hard work and bolsters our efforts to surge forward with amazing training that has the ability to in-turn impact the lives of people in the community. |

Supervision training pathway - plan ahead!
We are seeing increased interest in our QC4 Supervisor course which is a wonderful reflection on practices being embedded in the workplace. We must however remind interested learners that QC4 it is not a stand-alone course, it relies on pre-requisites.
The Learning Centre supervision suite is a collection of four courses created in a sequenced pathway. Each course relying on the knowledge from the previous being fully understood and integrated before the learner can progress on their journey to the next phase.
When QC60 Introduction to Supervision eLearning (the first in the sequence) was launched in early 2023, we did not anticipate how impactful it would be. Through reflective consideration we have come to appreciate how comprehensive it is in preparing learners for both QC8 Supervisee and QC4 Supervisor. Therefore, from January 2025 ALL learners intending to enrol in QC4 Supervisor will be able to fast track after completing QC60 eLearning and a short pre-enrolment quiz*.
To be an effective supervisor it does remain important to fully understand the supervisee role, so while completion of QC8 Supervisor is still highly desirable it will no longer be mandatory for enrolling in QC4. Please be reminded that we are not questioning the quality of any prior experience or training you may have undertaken, we are simply being mindful of the content and structure of our workshop, and ensuring you have the right tools, information, and skills aligned and at the ready for the best outcomes in your practice.
Don't wait, make sure you plan ahead to complete the required courses in your supervision journey.
*Note: The QC4 pre-enrolment quiz is designed to assess the readiness of participants for both the QC4 workshop and the supervisory role as aligned to the teaching methodologies used. If responses indicate that more knowledge and/or experience is required advice will be provided at the time. |

A new LMS is coming
As announced in our June newsletter (Winter edition) a new LMS is under development to carry us into the future, and allow the ongoing accessibility of our training, services, and learner records.
While migration of full learner history is in planning, we cannot account for every possible scenario and therefore recommend that all learners access, download and save their learner records.
We recommend that you visit www.qcmhl.qld.edu.au, login then:
- view your My profile tab and ensure ALL your details, including mobile phone number, work location and line manager details are up to date.
- next go to the My courses, My bookings tab to view your list of completed courses.
- important: Export your record of learning (Excel download accessible via Export button at the bottom of the screen).
- finally, download and save your Certificates (accessible via the individual course page for each completed course). Secure them on a personal device/drive for ease of access in the future.
Note: Certificates are not accessible for decommissioned courses (containing 'D' course code).
If a certificate is not available it is indicating you haven't completed the course, check all elements in the course page.
We will provide more updates as more information is known and when the estimated go live date can be revealed. |
